Self-care

Now there’s a thought! In this crazy, busy and often strange world, what does it mean?

The basic definition of self-care is:

“The practice of taking actions that are necessary to sustain life and health normally initiated by the individual for him – or herself.” (Oxford Reference).

Function

Without some level of self-care, we would not function in any kind of effective way. We would just be on autopilot, going through the motions or we may be experiencing anxiety, panic, a sense of being lost and demotivated. Sleep and behaviour patterns can become disrupted and even our appetite can suffer.

The Basics

In order to begin to make changes, we must first understand some basics:

What is self-care?
What does it actually look, feel and sound like?
And why is it so important?

You may be wondering how you can possibly manage to achieve some level of this or be thinking how do you even start with it?

Change A Negative Mindset

The word negative can be applied to many things from chemistry to describe neutrons to the state of a financial situation. But in this instance we are referring to a negative state of mind or attitude.

Do you find yourself paying more attention to negative information?

Are you aware of a negative element to your responses?

Do you often feel disagreeable and/or sceptical?

What do those feelings and thoughts prevent you from doing?

This session is designed to give you valuable information on what causes a negative mindset, what benefit it has and how to produce more positive thoughts.

In the presentation, we will look at what a negative mindset is, where it came from and what part it plays in our day to day lives.

We delve into how it causes issues and what can be done about it so you go away from the workshop with some ideas and strategies that will be useful, so bring your notepad and pen! You will also receive a meditation recording to listen to in your own time to further your progress.

If you find that more often than not, your view your glass as half empty, then this is your opportunity to find out how to shift that negative attitude to a more positive one and see what value that adds to you and the people around you.

Emotional Freedom Technique

I often use this technique within therapy sessions to give my clients the power to help themselves in tricky situations.

It may be that you need to prepare for a test, interview or meeting and your nerves get the better of you. Or you could find that you are having trouble relaxing.

EFT

EFT can support a regular routine of relaxation and aid focus and concentration. Using a system of tapping it helps release negative energy stored or ‘stuck’ in the body leaving you feeling free and revitalised.

This hour class explores the many uses of EFT. Demonstration and practive will have you feeling confident in using this technique to manage stressful situations with more ease and boost your self esteem with acknowledging your own skills and resources.

It can be taught to children and adults and is quick and easy to implement anywhere.
