Summer Journal Sessions for Year 6 Children
Helping your child feel calm, confident, and ready for secondary school
Starting secondary school is a big step and it’s completely normal for children to feel a mix of excitement and worry.
The Brave Start programme offers a small, supportive group where young people can explore their thoughts, build confidence, and feel more prepared for the transition to Year 7.

What we’ll do: (No writing experience needed)
- Gentle, guided journaling activities
- Explore common worries about secondary school
- Build confidence and coping strategies
- Encourage self-expression in a relaxed environment

Who it’s for:
Children in Year 6 moving into Year 7 (ages 10–11)
Sessions
3 summer sessions (90 minutes each)
Thursday 30th July, 13th August or 27th August
10 until 11.30am.
Location: The Hayloft, Erewash Museum, Ilkeston.
Cost: £18 per person, per session.
